People of Casa Materna

Yeni Merida was born and raised in Huehuetenango and has a background in nursing. As the Casa Materna coordinator, she works with the nurses and doctors as well as the families that visit Casa Materna. She is passionate about helping mothers and babies and is proud of the impact that Casa Materna has had in her community.

Bal Gutierrez is the manager of the Huehuetenango office of Project Concern International, the NGO that runs Casa Materna. She was responsible for spearheading the start of the Casa Materna clinic fifteen years ago, and she is still just as passionate and involved in Casa Materna as she was when she started the project in 2000.
